Well, this book depicts the agony of such personal suffering in the life of the author. The first part of the book “Experiencing Suffering” thus narrates the story of his suffering inflicted through Ankylosing Spondylitis, Hip replacement of both legs, a Kidney transplant and an angioplasty. It records his questioning of God, - the eternal and inevitable- Why me?The second part- “Understanding Suffering” delves into the Christian theology of suffering and attempts to answer the ‘Why’ of suffering, the sovereignty of God, the question of healing and the Christian attitude to suffering in great detail. What They Said: What is special about this book is this: it is intimately personal, deeply theological and yet spiritually stimulating.Lewis and Yancey try to explore pain as objectively as possible in search of Biblical answers. However, 'Agony and Ecstasy' is more refreshing because it is both autobiographical as well as deeply theological. It is extremely rare for a sufferer to find answers to the question of why God allows pain in our life.
