Not all great personalities are recognized at the world stage, but that does not mean they are not heroes. Jammu (Jammu & Kashmir, India) in the 70’s and 80’s was a city of deep orthodox mindset. Hailed as the ’‘City of Temples’, it had generally been following old traditions and belief systems. Yes, it is good to uphold one’s value systems. But it is equally important to embrace the change – as Nirmal did. This story is about a woman who lost her husband when she was young. For a mother of three children, all under the age of seven, it was a tragedy beyond her comprehension. However, her personality evolved with the passage of time. From a simple, shy housewife, she became an inspiration for many. She defied the prevailing social mores norms and took bold decisions for the betterment of her children. Her fight for survival on her own terms is my motivation. Her progressive nature and out-of-the-box thinking are our inheritance. Translating my deep gratitude into words is the only tribute I can give her. It may inspire and motivate you as well. Most of the events and stories in the book have been shared with me by people who admire her. There are no assumptions from my side. , Today the world will know the “‘How the Phoenix rose from the ashes’’’.
