As Red as Blood is the first part in Salla Simukka’s Lumikki Andersson trilogy. This edition is masterfully translated from Finnish into English by Owen Witesman. Summary of the Book Lumikki Andersson is a 17 year old girl. One day, she walks into her school’s dark room and finds a pile of blood-splattered money. It is the middle of a frigid Arctic winter, and she lives alone in a studio apartment. She has come to live alone to put her past behind her, hoping that the prestigious art school will help her forget everything. She distances herself from the cliques, the gossip and the parties held by the school’s most popular and beautiful boys and girls. However, finding the money changes everything. She involves herself in the hunt to find the origin of the money. The clues point straight to some corrupt cops and an infamous drug lord known for his brutality. Lumikki is losing time, and in her hunt she might have become blind to the threat that is looming closer than she realizes. About Salla Simukka Salla Simukka is a Finnish writer and translator who has studied at the University of Turku. She has also written Jäljellä, Toisaalla and Viimeiset.
