Balcony on the River, authored by Kaushik Ghosh, is a novel of great intensity. It is a tale that brings out a plethora of human emotions that remain the same no matter which part of the world we live in and what cultural differences persist between them. Summary of the Book Mumbai has always been a great muse of so many writers' stories, both Indian and foreign. The story of the protagonist in this book, who comes to India, also begins his journey at Mumbai, the city of dreams, an enigma. Nevin McIntosh and Andy Singh are best buddies who work in a multinational bank in Edinburgh. Nevin is Scottish whereas Andy is British Sikh. One day, Nevin decides to work at the Mumbai branch in India, which takes his parents, Andy and his girlfriend Sara Sutherland by surprise. Three months in Mumbai evokes in him an irresistible urge to explore the rest of the country. In the meanwhile, Andy, Sara and Nevin’s parents are anxious about his situation in India as Nevin would have cut off all correspondence. Andy and Sara then decide to come to India in this context. Would they be able to locate Nevin? Will they be able to persuade him to go back with them? The book unveils the rest of the story with an unputdownable profundity. The readers are introduced to different cultures of different lands. A must read for fiction aficionados. About Kaushik Ghosh Kaushik Ghosh is one of the renowned Indian contemporary novelists. He was born in Ranchi. He currently lives in Mumbai and is associated with an IT MNC. He has travelled to many countries and traversed the length and breadth of India, covering the most remote regions. The myriad experiences of his travel have been brought out in his books so vividly that the readers virtually find themselves in those places and people and get acquainted with their way of life.  He is also the author of the book Last Rites.
