The stories related in this book are based mainly on events known to Maharanee Sunity Devi. Others though fictitious are representitive of the state of affairs in pre-independent India where the English were beginning to make their authority felt. A number of these stories tell the tale of the game played between man and beast when tigers were in much greater numbers, especially in the Sunderbans, where they at times terrorised the native villages. A collection of entertaining stories that take us back to the times of the now long extinct Raj.
