He has earlier served as lecturer in History at M.D.K. Girls' College and in the Department of History, Dibrugarh University. A life member of the Indian History Congress and the North East India History Association, he is actively associated with various academic bodies and organisations of the country. Dibrugarh University awarded him the Ph.D. degree in 2000 for his thesis British Forest Policy and its Impact on Assam, 1864-1947. He has a large number of research papers to his credit.
