This work attempt to dispel many misconception about the origin and development of Buddhist thought and philosophical systems. The approach adopted by the author steers clear of the customary attempts which try to assess the measure in which buddhism, in the modern thought. It contradicts the conceptions which distort early ideas in order to bring them up-to-date. An emphatic reassertion has been made here of the fact that a logical system and philosophical maturity get a secondary place to 'salvation' for Buddha and his followers.
