This book aims to find out the characteristics of the pattern of the capital expenditure and capital formation in Indian agriculture. An attempt is also made to identify the major obstacles and difficulties which impede the progress of the process of change and modernization of capital structure in different parts of the country. Making micro and macro study in the state of west Bengal, it analyses the results of a probe made into the official records of two lead bands operating in the study area with a view to ascertaining the nature of the deposit and credit flow. The book will be of special interest to policy makers, researchers and development agencies. About the Author A. Ghosh, M.A., Ph.D., was senior professor in economics, Jadavpur University till 1986. Previously, he was in the Indian statistical institute working with professor P.C. Mahalanobis ; in the department of applied economics Cambridge university working with professor Richard stone; a research fellow in the London school of economics with professor D.V. Glass; and in the Harvard university research project working with Professor wasilly leontief. He has also served the United Nations as adviser in the ESCAP, UNIDO and ECA working on problems of development of the entire Afro-Asian region. In the course of his work, he has published a considerable number of papers and books on different aspects of the development of Asian Countries in general and India in particular.
