This text aims to provide a comprehensive account of the nature and management of childhood asthma and of other wheezing diseases in young children. It brings together the basic clinical scientist, together with the practising clinician, to provide a comprehensive text. Each chapter is firmly based on scientific evidence. In this book, a picture emerges of the important developmental and biological bases for childhood asthma. This is followed by chapters which link the known major causes of asthma to the clinical sections. The clinical management of childhood asthma is dealt with in depth. Practical guidance is given for instance in relation to the guidelines for drug and the use of aerosol devices. Finally, the group of disorders represented by childhood asthma is placed firmly in the wider context of the community, with sections on teaching and training for health professions in the public and the delivery of care to children with asthma in the community.
