About The Book: The book is contained series of lectures on Christianity and Islam, which were originally given at the Cathedral Church of Chichester during Advent. The lectures were prepared for publication with some alterations and additions, and were intended to contribute to a better understanding of the two religions. The author believes that it is especially important to understand the religious differences between Christians and Muslims given the current Eastern question, which has roots in these differences. The author seeks to dispel false and calumnious estimates of Islam and to do justice to the great prophet of Arabia, while also pointing out the real and vital distinctions between the two religions. While there should be peace and goodwill between the believers of different creeds, this should not be placed on a rotten foundation of imaginary resemblances and blind spots to real distinctions. About The Author: William Richard Wood Stephens (1839 – 1902) was Dean of Winchester from 1895 to 1902. Stephens was known for his philanthropy, spending his own money to have the church at Mid Lavant restored. He provided funds for the rebuilding of the chancel at Woolbeding and contributed to the repairs of the roof at Winchester Cathedral. He also spent a lot of time showing visitors around the cathedral and explaining its history. In 1895 he was recognised for his interest in history when he was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.
