“From dust you come and to dust you will return” is the reminder given to Christians all over the world on Ash Wednesday. But not everyone goes for a service on this day. Sara Miles comes out of the Church to anoint all foreheads in The City of God, to spread Faith in the Streets. Summary of the Book It is Ash Wednesday, the first day of lent, the season where all Christians spend forty days of penance and prayer before the celebration of Easter, the feast of Jesus’ resurrection from the dead. Ash Wednesday is celebrated by a church service, during which Christians anoint their foreheads with ashes as a reminder of the faith in which we all return to dust where we came from some day. Sara Miles, the protagonist in The City of God spreads this Faith in the Streets, where she anoints the heads of believers, doubters, strangers and everyone she comes across that day. The story takes place in the Mission District of San Francisco and begins with a scene at the church of St Gregory’s of Nyssa where preparations for a liturgy are being made. The characters in this book are real and the narrative is personal reflecting the author's struggles that have made her the source of inspiration that she is today.The book provides readers with a feeling of enchantment even though we love in a cold and disenchanted world. About Sara Miles Sara Miles was born in 1952. Today, she directs the Ministry at the Episcopal Church called St. Gregory of Nyssa in San Francisco. She has inspired the beauty of Christian faith through her books like Jesus Feed: Feeding, Healing, Raising the Dead and Take This Bread: A Radical Conversion. She has also spread her values of Christianity through her various workshops and preaching. She has also written for The New Yorker and The New York Times Magazine.
