Community Radio in India shares valuable experience from academic experts and grassroots organizations to provide a roadmap for those planning to start or improve a community radio (CR) station. The unique CR challenges—participatory content development and the sustainability of the CR station—are well-described along with how those difficult issues can be effectively addressed. The research and methodologies described herein can be adapted by CRs to better understand their community and measure the reach and impact of a program scientifically—a critical component for donors and others committed to engaging the disengaged. This book has essentially filled the information divide in the CR sector that makes it a must-have for students and community media enthusiasts. I congratulate the authors and UNESCO for providing a long-due update.
