Most of Anand stories leave you at the end as if you were listening to a posthumous narration, – after the man's mobike has been run over by the truck as in Confessions of the Corpse, or the young woman telling post-suicide as she is about to be carried for cremation in The Darling Daughter. 'The Scare City' is about a teacher who left job in a department rather notorious for corruption and extra money, and consequently confronts financial hiccups in higher education of his children, since "Honesty has no reservation quota in Medical colleges and Engineering institutions".
