The focus of this book is on the study of family and household among the fishermen of Coastal Andhra with emphasis on the generative processes of the family and household as well as its cultural and social structural dimensions. The author also discusses the cultural dimensions through which social action is interpreted and the natural facts are given a form and meaning. The analysis is focused on the cultural rules and, Strategies related to the aspects of inheritance, succession and division of property to show how the Jalaris follow the rules, adapt and interpret the same. Finally, the author tries to draw together the significant features of the Jalari family and household in terms of an analytical distinction made between cultural dimension and the social structural reality.
