Dalit literature in India exposes the hitherto unknown facets of social reality, and, in doing so, adds new dimension to creativity. This collection of ten short stories in Indian English depicts the evils of caste system and its maddening effects on the individuals. These men and women, struggling stoically against the hostile circumstances, hardly know the fact that it is not the Fate or Providence that defies their efforts to survive but the social structure in which they are trapped perpetually. Set in the various Indian regions, representing the nation as a whole, the stories evoke profound pathos and pleasure of acquaintance with desperate men and women in India suffering from the pangs of untouchability. Narrated in a lucid style, they occasionally evoke sarcastic overtones. About the Author:- B. Rangrao is a noted Dalit writer in Marathi, his first language, whose books have won prestigious literary awards in the state. He is the former Professor of English at Mumbai University. He has to his credti collection of poems in English, besides critical books on English poetry, contemporary Indian English novel and contemporary American literature. Also, he has edited Dali Poetry in Marathi for Sahitya Akademi, and was the editor of Indian Literary Panorama, a biannual dedicated to contemporary Indian life and literature.
