System software is a set of programs that organize, utilize and control hardware in a computer system. The main objective of this book is to understand procedures for the design of software systems and to provide a basis for judgment in the design of software. The book includes six chapters: Chapter 1 presents the importance of machine architecture and discusses the main two machine architecture such as SIC and SIC/XE. Chapter 2 discusses the basic assemblers and machine dependent features. Chapter 3 highlights on the machine independent features and also focuses on one pass and multi-pass assembler design options. In Chapter 4, the basic loader features with machine dependent and machine independent features are discussed. Chapter 5 includes the basics of macro processor. It also highlights the machine independent features of macro processor with various design options. Chapter 6 discusses the overview of editing process and the functions and capabilities of debugging systems.
