Fish in a Dwindling Lake is a collection of stories told from the point of view of women. The characters in the stories are fairly unconventional, often telling readers a bold or tragic story. Summary of the Book The stories in this book speak of loyalty and integrity. Love is a topic that will appear in some of them, while some describe a very disturbing life in Mumbai. Read about the man who makes a living as a male prostitute and bears the taunts of women who are never satisfied. Also, there is the unusual couple who adopt an ape to be their son. The stories even portray a woman’s relationship with her body, wherein the body is seen as a unique landscape that keeps experiencing changes with time. About Ambai Ambai is the pseudonym of Dr. C. S. Lakshmi, a historian and a creative writer in Tamil. She writes on topics concerning love, relationships, quests and journeys, usually in the Tamil region. Lakshmi Holmstrom has been responsible for translating her stories in two volumes entitled A Purple Sea and In a Forest, a Deer. In 2008, Ambai was awarded the Lifetime Literary Achievement Award of Tamil Literary Garden in Canada. About Lakshmi Holmström Lakshmi Holmström, writer and translator, has translated several short stories, novels and poetry by Tamil contemporary writers. She translated Karukku by Bama and received the Crossword Book Award for her work in 2000. She has also translated In a Forest, a Deer for which she received the Iyal Award of the Tamil Literary Garden, Canada.
