The author has consulted various books in compiling this little history, TalboysWheeler’s and Orme’s in particular. But the most valuable sources fromwhich he has drawn have been the records of Fort St. George whichare kept in Madras. Through the courtesy of the HonorableMr. G. Stokes, Chief Secretary, the author has been able to consult the originalpapers from which Wheeler drew his information.
