Work conducted in the world on a very specific subject of vital Importance has been covered very systematically. About the Author S.K. Gupta was awarded Ph. D. in 1984 by Jawahar Lal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad. His field of interest has been management of salt-affected soils through drainage, leaching and better water management. He has published 70 research papers in national and international journals. He has been awarded a Gold Medal by the Institution of Engineers (India). He has been working at Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal, Since 1971. I.C. Gupta received his Ph. D. in 1968 from University of Jodhpur. He has published about 10 books ad 50 papers in the disciplines of water quality and soil salinity. He has participated in several national and international conferences and has received the Glaxo Scientific Honours Club Prize. Indian Council of Agricultural Research bestowed on him an award instituted for outstanding agricultural research Dr. Rajendra Prasad Puraskar (First) in March, 1986. Dr. Gupta is presently working as Officer-in-charge of Central Arid Zone Research Institute's Regional Station at Bikaner.
