The Creeping Fig Ivy (Ficus pumila), also known simply as "Creeping Fig," is a fast-growing, vining plant known for its ability to cover walls, fences, and trellises with a lush, green carpet of leaves. Native to East Asia, this plant is part of the fig family and is often used in landscaping and as a houseplant for its decorative, cascading foliage.Its small, heart-shaped leaves start out delicate and soft but become thicker and tougher as the plant matures. The young vines attach to surfaces using small, clinging roots, allowing them to grow vertically on almost any structure. The leaves on juvenile plants are usually small and bright green, while those on mature plants become larger, darker, and more leathery in texture.Indoors, the Creeping Fig does well in bright, indirect light but can tolerate some lower light conditions, although growth may slow. Outdoors, it thrives in shaded to partly sunny areas, preferring a humid environment. It requires regular watering to keep the soil moist but not soggy, as it’s sensitive to drought. The Creeping Fig also benefits from occasional pruning to control its spread, especially since it can quickly cover large areas if left unchecked.
