From time immemorial man has been interested in trying to control diseases. The hsitory fo medicine, thus contributes reviews of the evolution of man and human knowledge during the 20th century and made medicien more complex. As the worlds population is nearing 5 billion, with this rate of growth, 3/4th of the worlds population cannot afford the products of western pharmaceutical industries. Therefore they have to rely upon the traditional medicines, which are derived from plants. Dr. Khan the director of nawab Shah Alam Khan Centre for post graduate studies and Research, Anwarul Uloom College campus, Mallepally, Hyderabad. Dr. Atiya Khanum obtained her M.Sc. and Ph.d. in Botany from the Osmania University, Hyderabad, Dr. Khanum has worked on the ecology of two lakes of Hyderabad with special reference to Planktonic and matforming algal communiteis.
