Historic Temples in Pakistan: A Call to Conscience is an attempt to record the history of an Islamic country’s Hindu past. The author has traveled around Pakistan and has recorded all the information with pictures. Summary of the Book This book contains a narrative of 40 old religious sites, including Hindu temples, in Balochistan. She has also visited the Thar desert and the Indus River Valley in Sindh. The book is about Pakistan’s social order and how it is bringing about its own destruction. She has documented Hindu places of worship, major festivals and important orders of priesthood. The Hindus, Christians, Ahmadis and Shi’ite Muslims make up just 5 percent of the population of Pakistan. This book talks about the problems that this brings about too. She talks about the vandalism of temples that are caused because of land disputes, backlash or commercial gain. The minorities are worried because of Pakistan’s blasphemy laws. For example, the Ahmadis are not recognized as Muslims in Pakistan. Read this book to understand the complexities of the minority, and gain knowledge about Pakistan and the historic sites mentioned in this book.
