Kalidasa blazed a new trail with his inimitable message poem where he employed a cloud as messenger who is to traverse a route form Ramagiri hills in the south to Alaka in the Himalayas. The work was recevied with such as enthusiasm that attempts were made to imitate it all over Indian by poets down the centuries. As a result there arose a significant branch of lyrical literature in Sanskrit.
