Here, he was a chairperson for a few years. He was Vice Chairman and Chairman at the University Grants Commission of India, and was the secretary and general president of the Indian History Congress. Being a member of the Indian History Congress, he supports the Marxist historiography of India in that medieval and early modern period. His book was reintroduced in the national curriculum in 2004 after having been removed for six years.
