I am delighted to have been called upon the publisher towrite an editorial note for the Human Rights in India: ChangingDimensions, a series of articles/research paper dealing withdifferent issues of human rights. While I am writing this editorialnote, I am conscious of human right in India, changing dimensions. The idea of human rights in ancient civilization and religiousdoctrines, the term human rights became part of political usageonly after the second world war. However majority of the scholarstrace the origin of the rights in Magna Carta; the English Bill ofright (1689); American (1776) and French declaration of right(1789) and the soviet charter of rights. The vision of human rightsis set out in the documents such as UDHR 1948, ICCPR 1966,ICESR1966 etc. these international frame works provide for andambitious set of rights, focusing equality, liberty and dignity, resulting into justice to all. The concept of human rights has itsorigin both in domestic and international efforts. In 21st century significant challenges remain for achievement of new generation of human right. Though the new globalize and inter dependent world present unprecedented opportunitiesfor cooperation and change, its also presents new challengesto equality, social justice and the protection of human rightschanging global dynamics, the emergence of new technologiesand the increasing relevance of human rights to different aspectsof society have also added into the book.
