Suicides among all groups, classes and communities stand as a fact of life in the Kashmiri society today. Authentic and credible reports and estimates reveal that more than two persons per day commit suicide. The emergence of the phenomenon needs to be presented in terms of its causation and implications. From all perspectives, the reality is glaringly clear that this depressive but critical act has been experienced in last two decades of armed conflict which made it the worst conflict zone. Even the disciplined and regimented Indian forces face this grave problem. This book studies the identify, description and analysis of 2,700 acts of suicide which took place during 2009-2011. In fact, it is based on a 'suicide diary' which has been compiled by the author on the basis of day-do-day reports in the local print media. Finally, this book puts all these cases of suicide in a sociological perspective. This book stands as a serious and academic effort to portray the existing reality related to the suicides in the sociological framework in the Kashmiri society. The existing situation cries for organized campaign against this social threat and intervention for controlling this dangerous phenomenon.
