This compendium of 18 papers attempts to critically evaluate the problems that plague the present day polity and society, and suggest remedies through the concept of human rights in its different dimensions. Tracing the genesis of human rights in India, it presents a human rights perspective on the freedom movement. Going deep into the Indian psyche towards human rights, the contributors discuss at length the place of human rights in dharma, protection of human right to environment, economic rights, human rights angle of public prosecution, protection of human rights in the administration of criminal justice, right to compensation, trafficking of girls, and impact of globalisation on human rights. About the Author T.S.N. is a Reader in International Studies and Coordinator of the Centre for Human Rights, School of Social Sciences and International Studies, Pondicherry University, Pondicherry. He was the first recipient of Ph. D. degree in International Law from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam in 1996.
