This book is an account of the extensive tour that the author undertook in the late 1840’s and early 1850’s, with an aim to collect information of the inhabitants here. The book is in a series of lectures that the author delivered when he returned home. There are 5 lengthy lectures in this volume, and they cover the temple, and other monuments of religious importance; lecture 2 is on the condition of women; 3rd : a description of the Thugs; 4th : the major festivals; and the last lecture gives specimens form the religious books of the Hindus. The book is heavily illustrated with over 90 engravings. All throughout the book the author illustrates his observations with numerous amusing anecdotes. This book is a reprint of the 1853 edition
