The book explores the emerging sandwich cultures of Indian diaspora in three countries, namely Trinidad, the United States of America and Thailand. These countries provide a varied picture of Indians settled abroad, ranging from indentured labour in Trinidad, to highly educated professionals in the United States of America. The Indians in Bangkok fall in between these two countries. Not only the circumstances under which people migrated to these countries differed, but also their socio-economic backgrounds were heterogeneous. The conditions faced by them and their personal experiences in the host countries also varied. All these factors affected their adaptation to local cultures and adjustment in the host society. Sandwich culture paradigm has been used to analyse the emerging sandwich cultures in these three countries. The various studies relating to these countries and carried out by scholars—both Indian and foreign—manifest in different theoretical frameworks have been waded through to cull out the relevant data to test the theory of sandwich cultures. The book will appeal to all those who wish to know about the general living of Indian migrants to various parts of the world, particularly, the US, Trinidad and Thailand. It will immensely benefit researchers in sociology and its pertinent aspects.
