Educated at East India College, he served in various administrative roles in India from 1840 until the rebellion. He died on March 14, 1900, on the Isle of Wight. Edith Scannell (1852-1940) was a British illustrator renowned for her work in children's literature, including the illustrations for Mark Thornhill's "Indian Fairy Tales."
