Accounts on value study in sociology are rooted in the historical development of the sociology as an independent discipline since its inception. Contrary to expectations, the recent emphasis on value study has reinforced existing knowledge on value analysis by providing a new perspective. This book critically examines the multi-dimensional and complex approaches to understand sociology of values through Western and Indian sociological traditions. This piece of work is my Ph.D. Thesis, in which my Mentor and Supervisor Prof. Anand Kumar has perfectly created a space to compile the works of many sociologists and putting them togetheer in a value frame. The valuable and inspiring suggestions drawn from my teachers of the Centre for the Study of Social Systems became instrumental for completion of this work. Value study is a multi-dimensional approach, but this work has some limitations. The knowledge on values have been defined and attempts were made to understand sociology of value mainly through Structural Functional, Conflict, Critical Approaches by referring both Western and Indian Sociological Traditions. The integrative approaches also referred to understand value study in Indian sociology.
