This book is a bold and meaningful attempt to situate, deglorify and deglamorize motherhood in a new age where women are finding their true space. Motherhood, a word that is governed by multiple realities, pluralism, democracy, greater freedom be it financial, emotional, or religious, can offer no simple answers. And indeed this collection of essays offers a gamut of views – drawn from the Hindi film industry, popular culture, literature both in English and the bhashas as wells as Black American writings. Taken together, it offers a look at motherhood, or the ‘state’ of being a mother, from multiple perspectives.
