This book enlightens as much as it informs while focussing on the Gurus teachings as well as the various udasis (travels) he undertook to spread his message of love, brotherhood and equality. Janamsakhis, as the name suggests, are tales that claim to reveal the life story of the first Guru, Nanak Dev, in a chronological manner. The earliest known Janamsakhi dates back to 1658, nearly 120 years after the death of Guru Nanak in 1539. Moreover, none of the Janamsakhis can claim to be the most authentic or the most authoritative. Through the years, each chronicler of the Gurus life has added and altered the narratives according to the need of the times. For this volume, Dr Harish Dhillon has tailored the twenty most inspiring and interesting stories about the life and times of Guru Nanak. While the language might be contemporary, at its core, this narrative has the same venerable feel that marked the tone of Janamsakhis written centuries ago. In short, through this work, the author has tried to bring the Guru closer to the current generations sensibilities. About the Author Harish Dhillon is the author of sixteen books, including The Sikh Gurus, First Raj of the Sikhs - The Life and Times of Banda Singh Bahadur and Love Stories from Punjab. He has also written numerous articles and short stories. He has taught English for forty-seven years. After his retirement, he did long-term assignments as editorial consultant to The Tribune. He was recognized on May 2015 by the Punjabi University for his contribution to Punjabi literature and culture.
