Many have agreed that the partition of India in 1947 was like a vivisection. It was probably one of the most traumatic experiences of the twentieth century. Many reasons have been given and many fingers have been pointed at people for the partition. One of them being Jinnah. However, we do not know who it really was: Jinnah, the Congress Party or the British. Summary of the Book In this book, Jaswant Singh has attempted to find his answer to the reason behind the partition as there is no such thing as a definitive answer to this question. Jinnah, who started as an ambassador of Hindu-Muslim unity, is becoming known as the sole spokesman of Muslims in India and the creator of Pakistan. Jaswant Singh tries to find out how this transformation came about. The book is an objective analysis. As a minister, Jaswant was responsible for the conduct of India’s foreign policy and managed the country’s defense. The book stands apart as it is written by a one who practiced policy. The author believes that if we want to understand how to bring back peace in South Asia, we first need to understand why it abandoned us. Unless we understand this, we will never know how to bring about any peace. About Jaswant Singh Jaswant Singh was barely 19 years old when he commissioned the Indian Army.
