About The Book: The purpose of this book is to present a comprehensive historical account of various prominent ancient Indian clans during the time of the Buddha, such as the Licchavis, Videhas, Mallas, Shakya, and other minor clans. Remarkably, this aspect of Indian history has received inadequate attention from historians until now. While Dr. Rhys Davids briefly mentions these clans in his work "Buddhist India," the Hinayana Buddhist literature provides more references to these significant clans compared to the relatively limited information found in the Mahayana Buddhist literature. When it comes to the minor clans, the northern Buddhist literature remains silent, while the southern Buddhist literature offers only scant details. Sanskrit literature offers little help in this regard. To gather information, the author has consulted Tibetan literature as well as the writings of English, French, and German authors. About The Author: Bimala Churn Law (1892-1969), also known as Bimala Charan Laha, was a renowned Bengali scholar, historian, editor, translator, and compiler.
