The life and career of the Christian missionary James Kennedy is the subject of this book. Mission activities are not the sole objective of this book; it describes the climate, aspect of the country, condition and character of the people, activities of the British government. A chapter on a two month tour of Ceylon is also included in the book. The author also describes his experiences during the revolt of 1857 The author was in India from 1838 to1879, and mainly worked in the then called North-Western Provinces-now in Uttar Pradesh and, in the hills of the now state of Uttaranchal; Benaras and Ranikhet being the two chief areas of operation. This book is the reprint of the 1884 edition.
