This work is a translation of poems from Hindi written by Ms Anshu Gupta. It is an expression of pain in its diverse manifestations. Pain does not have a form and a dimension, it is amorphous and manifests according to situations. The pain pulsates along with the heartbeat in an individual and when it overflows, it manifests as poetry-one of its most potent forms of expression of pain. Pain can be that of an individual, a society, or a nation, but the pain that a woman endures when it finds expression underlines that still, a woman continues to pass her life from one form of pain to another. For a translator, it always is a challenge to convey thoughts as expressed through the language in which it has been originally written via translation. It is in the genre of confessional poetry initiated by Sylvia Plath- an American poetess, novelist and short story writer. For a poet to translate the experience into words is a sublime manifestation and the present work of Anshu Gupta- Dhai Akhar Dard ke ( in Hindi)- has distinct underpinnings along the same lines.
