Campfire Graphic Novels masterfully adapts Michael Teitelbaum and Lewis Halfand’s classic biography of Martin Luther King Jr. into a comic book for all to enjoy. Summary of the Book Martin Luther King’s struggle for equal rights took the world by storm. He was a man with a vision, a dream that one day, all men and women would be united irrespective of colour or creed. Despite the imagery, not even a century has passed since America crumbled under the weight of racial discrimination and injustice. African Americans were deprived of many rights, treated as unequals, and the government was full of politicians who turned a blind eye. Some even abetted the injustice, believing that whites were more privileged. However, Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream shaped the country and the world forever. The Reverend spoke widely of his dream, one that was deeply rooted in the American Dream. He hoped that one day, in the heart of the land where injustice reigned, freedom would ring. His cries, his roaring countenance and his eloquence inspired people to take up the cause of the coloured races, bringing one of mankind’s darkest battles to the forefront. Of all the biographical accounts of the Reverend’s life, Michael Teitelbaum and Lewis Halfand’s Let Freedom Ring is largely considered one of the most honest and open. This graphic novel captures the essence of that book and presents readers an easy to read format to introduce them to a man who had a dream.
