This work of nonfiction is a refreshing look at the life and works of Abul Kalam Azad, who is fondly remembered as Maulana Azad. His views on a wide range of concepts are also revisited in an intriguing perspective. Summary of the book Syeda Hameed’s Maulana Azad, Islam and the Indian National Movement introduces the readers to Azad’s personality which had many dimensions to it. It explores his contribution as a scholar to Indian Politics, different theories of Islam, nationalism and also education, as the first Minister of Education of India. He was a man of ideas which were ahead of his times and Syeda explicates how they are relevant to the present day. This book is elaborately informative about his life not only as the freedom fighter but also his erudite contribution to poetry in Urdu, on Philosophy, and how he considered all Indians equal, irrespective of their religion and faith. About Syeda Saiyidain Hameed Syeda serves as the Chancellor of The Maulana Azad National Urdu University in Hyderabad. She is also a member of the Planning Commission of the Indian Government for health, women and children and minority rights sectors.
