Middle India: Selected Stories, by Bhisham Sahni, is a delightful collection of short stories that depict the way of life in the middle part of India. Summary of the Book Some of the titles included in this collection are: Dinner for the Boss, Paali, Sparrow, Veero, The Witch, Before Dying, and Radha-Anuradha. All these stories delve into the lives of the lower middle class people and their semi-urban way of living. The stories, with their precision of thought and expression, describe how each individual has his/her place in society. About Bhisham Sahni Bhisham Sahni was a well-known Indian playwright and actor, who was born in Rawalpindi, British India, in 1915. He had a master's degree in English. He played an active role in the Quit India Movement and was even jailed for this reason. Most of Sahni’s literary works depict the lives of individuals who led a cowed life under the pressure of socio-political-economic sullenness. He was honoured with the Padma Bhushan award and the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship. Some of his other notable works are Tamas, Gulal Ka Khel, and The Train Has Reached Amritsar.
