About The Author: Vickerman Henzell Rutherford (1860–1934) was a British Liberal politician and medical doctor. He was educated at the Royal High School, Edinburgh, and Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. Rutherford entered politics in 1900, standing for parliament as a Liberal candidate for Osgoldcross, and was elected MP for Brentford in 1906. After losing his seat in the 1910 General Election, he attempted a return in 1918 but finished third as the Liberal candidate for Bishop Auckland. He later switched to the Labour Party, contesting the 1920 Sunderland by-election, where he finished second. His political career reflected shifting party allegiances and evolving views.
