Nikolai Gogol is such a shining sun of world literature, from whose rays Russia's humanistic literature shines. Gogol was born in 1809 in a small village in Ukraine. After completing his college studies, he joined a government office as a clerk. But the small employees in the offices lived like slaves, which was difficult for a passionate young man like Gogol. Because of which he left the job. After quitting his job, he devoted all his attention to reading and writing literature. During this time, he became friends with the famous Russian writer Pushkin, who advised Gogol that he should write a big novel. After this, Gogol started writing the novel Dead Souls, which was completed in seven years. This novel is a landmark not only of Russia but also of world literature. In this novel he has created a character who wanders through the underbelly of Russia, presenting a bare picture of social and political life. Gogol has been disturbing the people of Russia through his writings throughout his life. For the ruling people, he was a lentil chicken. They wanted to kill Gogol somehow, so he left Russia and took refuge in Rome. After 10 years of exile he returned to the country. In 1852, this great writer left the world. On the death of Gogol, the Russian novelist Turgenev said, "Gogol is no more." He was the soul of our country. His name and writing will live forever.” Jang Bahadur Goyal
