Muslims In Indian Cities: Trajectories Of Marginalisation is a book that provides the readers with detailed insights into the life of the Muslim community in India. Summary Of The Book Muslims In Indian Cities: Trajectories Of Marginalisation revolves around the Muslim community, which is the second largest religious group in India, totaling around 150 million. This book provides the readers with all they need to know about the life of Muslims in India. It has been divided into 11 chapters, excluding the Introduction and Conclusion. It provides information about the situation of Muslims in Indian cities such as Cuttack, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mumbai, Bhopal, Aligarh, and Calicut. Each of the above-mentioned cities have their distinct dynamics, and this book portrays the life of Muslims in specific parts of each city, which best help to portray the aspirations, historicity, and mindset of Muslims in that particular city. For Mumbai, the authors have examined Muslim life in the Shivaji Nagar area, and not the Muslim blocks in Mohammed Ali Road and Bhendi Bazaar. For Lucknow, the authors have examined the lives of Shias, belonging to the Kashmiri Mohalla. The authors have also had one-on-one conversations with Muslims from several cities. They tell the readers about Arif Sheikh, who is a municipal schoolteacher, and is proud of the fact that he’s fluent in English and Marathi. Marathi is the native language of Maharashtra, hence, its knowledge helps people deal with local municipal officers, thereby, boosting people’s confidence and standing. The authors have explained that most Muslims have a great deal of difficulty living in the Northern part of India, especially in Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Aligarh, and Mumbai.
