About Gulzar Sampooran Singh Kalra popularly known by his pen name Gulzar, is an Indian author, poet, lyricist and film director. He was born in the Jhelum district in British India, and later his family moved to India after partition. He started his career as a lyricist for the film Bandini and later worked with several music directors including R.D. Burman, Salil Chowdhury, Vishal Bhardwaj and A. R. Rahman. He also writes poetry, dialogues and scripts and has also directed films such as Aandhi and Mausam. He was honored with the Padma Bhushan, the Sahitya Akademi Award and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He has also won several Indian National Film Awards, Filmfare Awards, one Academy Award and one Grammy Award.
