The deep democratic strivings in Nepal exemplified in its recent churning to frame a new constitution have raised a range of issues before scholars and practitioners as well as for the common people. While trying to find its moorings during this transitional phase, Nepali politics is witnessing a continual jostle of transformative ideas and trajectories as well as structures and processes which could accommodate the assertion of common people while catering to their basic human needs. It is indeed a long drawn and often frustrating endeavour especially amid the historic disparities and diversities in culture, society and geography. Sustainable progression in this pursuit for real democracy, warrants among other imperatives a constant scholarly review of the past and present as well as future projections. This volume presents a timely overview of varied facets of contemporary Nepal as it transits on the democratic path amid crises and challenges.
