Maira, a young American-Indian journalist, finds herself trapped in a situation where she has to cover a story for 'The New York Times' as an intern to secure her job. This novel begins on an autumn night in 2020, when she is at home reading a novel. Of course, autumn is a sign of the slow decline of the year towards winter, bringing with it colder weather and darker evenings.
