The Almighty is a thriller novel by Irving Wallace. Summary of the Book Edward Armstead’s inheritance isn’t what he thought it’d be. His father’s vast news empire comes with a strange condition: he must surpass the Times’ sales, fulfilling the dead man’s dream. However, Edward’s desire to grant the old man’s wish becomes a deadly obsession. He begins to shape the news to sensationalize the events, and when the thrill runs out, he decides to manipulate and control it. Finally, the compulsion to win the race for the biggest scoop makes him mad, and he realizes that to win, he will have to create news himself: no matter what the cost.
