Pather Dabi causes an enormous furore following its serialization in the Bengali monthly, Bangabani. Later published as a book, 5000 copies of the novel sold out within a week of its publication. The story of Sabyasachi, the charismatic leader of the military organization called Pather Dabi, and the powerful women in his life, is one of agony and ecstasy and continues to stir the public imagination. About the Author Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay (1876-1938) was a novelist and short story writer from Bengal, one of the leading writers of the Bengal Renaissance. Pather Dabi, one of his greatest and most controversial works, was banned by the British during his lifetime. Prasenjit Mukherjee was born in 1957 and did his master’s degree in English literature from Utkal University. He was a lecturer in Berhampur University before joining the Indian Audit and Accounts Service. He has also translated another of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s works, the popular Palli Samaj.
