Computer Literacy in School Studies was a pioneering effort in India for computer demystification of higher secondary school students initiated in Mid-80’s. This book recounts, documents and analyses the results of this unique and historic project. For the evaluation of CLASS both quantitative and qualitative methods were utilized which has been integrated in the presentation of this book. The study brings out clearly that due to managerial and organizational problems CLASS could not made its desired mark. While the students were keen to learn and did learn from the CLASS project, its effects remain limited due to lack of proper planning and incorporation of computers as a subject in the classroom. Inappropriate selection of teachers, inadequate training, large time gap between training and actual computer use, confusion about the aims of CLASS project and its palace in the school curriculum had its toll on the quality of computer teaching. This book must be seen in the historical perspective of information revolution and the increasing role of computers in education and industry.
