All of us should recognise the fact that it is essential to develop sub centres around the main city centre for organising the increasing growth of metropolitan cities. In this direction, planning of new towns to de-centralize the growth is based on zonal development plans; which are fundamentally land use maps. Before preparing detailed land use map of the area, it is necessary to develop a broad framework in the shape of a ‘Structure Plan’ containing the future development policies. The need for such an exercise is substantiated with the help of a case study in this book.
